About the concert
British-Bahraini trumpeter Yazz Ahmed blurs the line between jazz and electronics, creating hypnotic “psychedelic Arabic jazz” – a mix of Arabic roots and Western sounds that proves tradition and innovation are no dichotomy.
After the international success of La Saboteuse and Polyhymnia, the high priestess of Arabic jazz returns with the album Paradise In The Hold. The new record draws on the unique secular folklore of the artist’s Bahraini homeland, in which the melancholic work songs of pearl divers contrast with the celebratory music of women’s drumming groups, traditionally played at weddings and festivals.
Let her take you on this Eastern journey on 18 March.
