About the concert
John Coltrane once said that music is a search for universal truth. In the year marking the centenary of the births of Coltrane and Miles Davis, pianist Emmet Cohen releases “Universal Truth” (2026), an album that refers directly to this idea and to the legacy of the two artists who shaped jazz as we know it.
Cohen, however, doesn’t try to copy them. With his characteristic ease, warm sound and personal approach, he searches for his own truth. The result is music that is well aware of its roots, but doesn’t merely try to recreate history lessons.
Emmet Cohen is an American pianist and composer, winner of numerous awards including the prestigious American Pianists Awards 2019, and a finalist of the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. He has performed with artists such as Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, George Coleman, Christian McBride and Kurt Elling.
