About the concert

‍

СОЮЗ is one of those bands that defy simple categories. Founded in Minsk by multi-instrumentalists Alex Chumak and Mikita Arlou and now based in Warsaw, their music knows no borders. Their sound combines the melancholy of Slavic melody with Brazilian tropicália, Japanese subtlety and Western art-pop – all held together by remarkably light arrangements, jazzy in spirit and cinematic in emotion.

After the success of Force of the Wind, the band returned with a new album, KROK – recorded between São Paulo, Stockholm and Warsaw, with guest appearances by Tim Bernardes and Manami Kakudo. It is their first album in Belarusian, and KROK (“step”) seems to be a metaphor for migration: the musicians speak about their identity, but also about travel, uncertainty, and the openness of – and to – the world.

On stage, СОЮЗ work as a single organism: the quartet transforms studio compositions into living, freely improvised forms full of micro-details and spontaneous emotion. Their music flows – now with the gentle pulse of samba, now with jazzy bite – before pausing again in the spaces of intimate pop.

This is music for those who look to sound not so much for entertainment as for a tender description of the world: its movement, its roughness and its fleeting beauty.
