About the concert

‍

“For me, music is a powerful weapon on the battlefield for PEACE OF MIND in this world,” says K.O.G., the next star of Scena MONK’s spring line-up.

From the streets of Accra to the stage of Glastonbury, from Zanzibar to Réunion – Kweku Sackey, aka K.O.G., brings his pan-African, multicultural energy to Gdańsk. It will be like a shamanic trance in which rap intertwines again and again with wide-ranging vocals and hypnotic dance.

Kweku grew up in Ghana on very eclectic influences – inspired by Tom Waits and Quincy Jones as much as by Bob Marley, and even Poland’s Kapela ze Wsi Warszawa. All of this can be heard in his music, which feels like a negotiation between roots and innovation, between the ritual world of tribal Africa and the progressive West. Through it all, he seems to reach – and share with the audience – a balance that is spiritual, physical and emotional.

Note: The concert will also be a great follow-up for anyone who enjoyed Jembaa Groove’s earlier show at Scena MONK (12 February) – K.O.G. has collaborated with them on several tracks.
