About the concert
London-based guitarist and composer Jakub Klimiuk takes his international quintet on a sentimental journey to Gdańsk, the city where he shaped his musical identity. The quintet will present pre-release material described by The Guardian as “combining the uncompromising edge of the contemporary New York scene with the impressionistic style of Scandinavian avant-jazz”.
Klimiuk’s quintet creates a sound full of tension and energy, in which precisely constructed compositions, rich in striking melodies and shifting textures, meet bold improvisation.
They debuted at the London Jazz Festival 2022 and quickly made a name for themselves on the British scene, playing regularly at legendary clubs such as the Vortex Jazz Club and PizzaExpress Live Soho, and collaborating with leading musicians including saxophonist Mark Lockheart (Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone) and vibraphonist Jonny Mansfield (Chris Potter, Kit Downes). In 2024 they released their debut LP, ‘(un)balanced’, translating into music their experiences of living in a noise-saturated modern world, somewhere between order and chaos.
The band brings together young-generation jazz musicians from London and Amsterdam: Jakub Klimiuk (guitar), Kasper Rietkerk (saxophone), Scottie Thompson (piano), Kinzan (double bass) and Luke McCarthy (drums).
