Description

‍

Their debut album was the result of a spontaneous undertaking. The band headed east, just a dozen or so kilometers from the front line, to visit friends serving in the military, spend time together, and, if the opportunity arose, record some music. They had no set script or grand artistic ambitions. For Mykhailo Birchenko and his band, playing under those conditions became the simplest, most unpretentious way of capturing reality. Out of these raw, improvised sessions came the material that was released a few months later as the album Basement 626.

In October 2025, Hyphen Dash also released a studio album, LATE, compiling tracks written between 2019 and 2024. The LP gained critical acclaim in Ukraine, Europe, and internationally, earning recognition from outlets including Rolling Stone magazine.

Although Hyphen Dash formed as a trio, the band quickly expanded into a quartet, featuring Myshko Birchenko (drums), Yevhen Puhachov (guitar, bass), Polina Maiboroda, and Dmytro Startsev (keyboards, synthesizers).
