Hania Derej Trio is a new project by the composer and pianist whom Jarek Szubrycht has called the new hope of Polish music. It combines her established aesthetic and interests with a breath of fresh experience. The band’s sound is built on electronic jazz with a touch of neoclassical expression: moments of wild tension, strong emotion and controlled chaos, but also melodic loops you can lose yourself in.

Hania’s life is constant motion: concerts, travel and living in the gaps in between. Her music has always been autobiographical, and this time is no different. The project is a musical story on the run – about dilemmas, breakdowns and highs: everything a person living today experiences by turns.

Despite the name “Trio”, the project features compositions written for a quartet with a guest saxophone. The aim is simple: to invite musicians from the region where the band is playing, to draw on the diversity of cultures and traditions, and to show that music is the common language in all of this.
