About the concert
Her voice is “thick smoke – as dark as ink, freshly rising from a fire” (The New York Times). Barack Obama included a track from her latest album, Daughter of a Temple, on his list of favourite music of 2025. ganavya – an artist for whom the line between singing, prayer and performance has long since ceased to exist – performs in Gdańsk for the first time on 10 April at Scena MONK.
Born in New York, raised in Tamil Nadu and educated at Berklee, UCLA and Harvard, ganavya combines the spirituality of South India, jazz improvisation and the deep tradition of sacred music. The result is an innovative and deeply moving blend of spiritual jazz and South Asian devotional music, originally recorded and edited by Ryan Renteria and then refined and mixed by Nils Frahm at his LEITER studio.
Daughter of a Temple is not so much a record as a community – built of sound, silence and light. ganavya says that although the album was born of a sense of loneliness, it has become living proof that “prayer works and love exists”.
