About the concert
The New Wave of French jazz from Toulouse
Jazz, hip-hop and cinema – this holy trinity defines the DNA of FELLAS, led by saxophonist Charlie Burg. In the spirit of Martin Scorsese’s films – the quintet takes its name from ‘Goodfellas’ – the band will wrap Scena MONK in a dense atmosphere and a gritty, gripping narrative.
Like the filmmakers of the French New Wave, the musicians reject the tight rules of genre, blending explosive nu-jazz, hip-hop boom-bap and jazz improvisation. They fill their musical world with big-city stories about people: full of life, but also of longing and loneliness.
