About the concert

‍

The Benjamin Lackner Band brings together five distinctive voices of the European jazz scene, with Maciej Obara and Mathias Eick up front. Led by German pianist and composer Benjamin Lackner, the quintet is built on strong melodies, refined interplay and a shared sense of space and narrative flow.

Trumpeter Mathias Eick, known for his lyrical Nordic aesthetic, is one of the most influential voices in contemporary European jazz. Saxophonist Maciej Obara is renowned for his expressive intensity and sculptural approach to improvisation. At the piano, Benjamin Lackner provides the compositions that give the music its structure, while the rhythm section – Paul Kleber on double bass and Matthieu Chazarenc on drums – lays down flexible foundations that support both intimate lyricism and moments of collective expression.

While Lackner’s latest ECM album, Spindrift, reflects a parallel chapter in his artistic development, the quintet with Maciej Obara and Mathias Eick is a separate live project – highlighting how strong individual voices converge into a cohesive, deeply communicative group sound.
