About the concert
Azymuth – the legendary band from Brazil – created an entirely new sound for themselves, combining jazz-funk with sensual samba and forging their own remarkable genre: “samba doido”.
This trio is one of the most influential pioneers of the Brazilian music scene and remains one of the longest-running jazz-funk collectives in the world. Fifty years after forming, the trio boasts more than thirty albums and a timeless stage energy that has been with them from the very beginning.
The group’s latest album, Marca Passo, marks an important milestone: it is their first full-length work recorded after the deaths of founder and drummer Ivan “Mamão” Conti (2023) and keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami (2012).
Alex Malheiros, the only remaining original member, sees leading Azymuth as his spiritual calling and a way to preserve the band’s musical legacy. Helping him build that legacy are Dudu Viana on keyboards and drummer Renato Massa.
