About the concert
When ALA.NI began writing Sunshine Music, her third album, the Paris winter of 2023 was in full swing, biting with bitter frost. Composing under layers of duvets in her flat, she drew warmth not from her surroundings but from memories of the Caribbean sun she had recently left behind.
The British-born, Paris-based singer and producer first enchanted the world in 2016 with her minimalist soul debut You & I, and four years later experimented with dense vocal textures and beatboxing on ACCA, inviting a range of acclaimed artists to collaborate – Iggy Pop among them.
Now, after five years of creative recalibration and a journey of more than two years to the land of her ancestors – through Barbados, Grenada and Jamaica – ALA.NI returns in sunny form to gently ease us into the relentless Tricity autumn.
ALA.NI consistently strikes a balance between nostalgia and modernity, between storytelling and creating atmosphere. Sunshine Music isn’t winter escapism, but a way of bringing light into the darkest corners of our hearts – and a reminder that sometimes the brightest things are born in the coldest rooms.
